A new page added on GetGNULinux.org: How to Misunderstand Free Software.

The page replaces the previous “free software explained” article, and is aimed at killing a few myths about free (or “open source”) software. If you still believe GNU/Linux has to do with communism, or that a program can “be patented”, you might find it interesting.

Accompanying that new page are a few minor re-wordings to the “What is Linux?” and “Linux Frequently Asked Questions” pages.

The About section of GetGNULinux.org was significantly cleaned up.
The “help us” and “changelog” pages now redirect to this planet site; our website FAQ was rephrased, and the About page is much easier to read.

This is a good step on the way to making this planet site a better organised centre for the GetGNULinux community.

As proposed by a reader, we have changed the page icon (”favicon”) of GetGNULinux.org.
The icon now shows a gnu head (drawn by David Vignoni and released under GNU FDL), instead of Larry Ewig’s Tux. It’s both more relevant and elegant, you can discuss it in our forum.

Note that this does not affect our position on the “GNU/Linux” vs. “Linux” terminology on the websites, now ratified in our by-laws.

The translations of GGL will adopt the new icon soon. You might need to clear the cache of your browser for the icon to display.
