The event will also see the announcement of the laureates of the Lutèce d’Or awards, in which we hope to qualify as the best project for promoting free software.

We won’t be giving a talk this time, but we’ll be very busy staffing the booth and looking for corporate sponsors. Our new T-shirt is already in the making, the printing shop reported, and should make its debut at the Paris event.

We’d be delighted to meet and talk to anyone who passes by (the entrance is costless, but registration is required). Particiipants and translators, if you happen to be there, please stop by and we’ll get you a drink!

Given the hurried pace, the continuously moving camera, some disarming questions, and the speaker who consistently mis-pronounced every name he could read, it wasn’t such a bad performance after all. We’ll try hard to be interviewed in English, next time.

It’s a great pleasure being here and a bit of a relief, too —we have been working hard over the last two months towards this, preparing printed material, equipment, travel and talks.

Our talk (“The Next Ten Million Users Won’t Have a Beard“) went well, our French visit cards are already gone, and T-shirts are selling well. 30°C peak temperature, storms while camping, and late night exchanges make the experience a little demanding but very exciting.

We’ll be giving a talk, The Next 10 Million Users Won’t Have a Beard : Building a global, effective advocacy community for Freedomware. It will be the first conference where two of us share the talk¹.

We will also be holding a booth all throughout the event. From questions about localization, help with translating, to sponsorship, we’ll be happy to address any topic. If you are around, please come say hi.

1. dual-conference should not be confused with conference-duel though

I just completed three talks, two in the Benelux and one in eastern Germany. The first two talks announced our ambitions for 2008 (more to appear here soon) and the third focused more on developers, explaining how to rethink projects to find an extra million users. It’s been a thoroughly enjoyable experience, also very exhausting because of the enormous time spent preparing, traveling, and wrapping-up.

For this reason there will likely be no more talks until the summer, when we will (hopefully) speak at the French RMLL (Libre Software Meeting) in Southern France. We’ve got plenty of things to work on before then, so there will be no time to fall asleep.
