Query results: Translations

We are well into the process of migrating LinuxFuerAlle.de and GnuLinux.cat to our on-line translation system, powered by Pootle and Poliglota.

There are two objectives to the migration:

• The visual appearance will be greatly improved, to match that of the English version, French and Castilian translations;
• Subsequent editing and updating of the text will be made much easier (enabling anyone, for example, to correct a sentence).

If you speak German or Catalan, please consider giving us a hand. Most of the copy-pasting work has been done; we now need proof-reading (the strings labled “fuzzy”), and translating of the recently-modified text.

Translating is easy. Everything is done on-line, no special technical skill is required. You can head straight to the web interface, or read more about translating for GNU/Linux Matters. Don’t hesitate to get in touch for any concern you may have.

We’re very pleased to announce that two translations of our flagship project GetGNULinux.org, in French and Castilian, have been thoroughly dusted and partly re-written.

Among the changes are a new “more” page, additional FAQ entries, a polished look, as well as countless text and image modifications to make the sites simpler, clearer and more pleasant to browse. All of this brought to you in standards-compliant, highly accessibile XHTML code.

The upgrade is the result of several months of work –a long period of time, since we carried it along with the full internationalization of GetGNULinux.org. Plainly speaking, this means that from now on, more translations can be developed extremely easily. You can add yours! Our web interface will let you translate text easily after a quick registration.

Because we are now confident that we can quickly release a translation in Chinese, Russian, or whichever language you wish to translate in, we think the coming months are going to be terrific. Participate to get your share of the fun.

Our long migration nearing completion, and we are now transferring both the French (PasseraLinux.fr) and the Hispanic (ObtengaLinux.org) websites to our online-translatable system. In plain English, this means the following:

• Both translations will look much better (compare the homepage of GetGNULinux.org and PasseraLinux.fr to see what will be improved)
• Anyone will be able to make corrections and content updates, easily, on-line in our Pootle installation.
• The localization of both translations will be greatly improved (for example, with a localized version of the “more” page)

Both Gustavo and I (Olivier) are working hard on transferring content into Pootle. You can help— all it takes is creating an account, and clicking your way to filling the entries in Pootle.
