Last week-end saw Ubucon take place, an event in Krefeld bringing together the German-speaking Ubuntu community. I was present and was honored with an invitation to make the keynote talk.
The talk, in essence identical to the one given in T-DOSE, but in German language, went very well. My accuracy and speed were of course affected by my limited knowledge of German (the words gemeinnütziger Verein, “non-profit organisation”, repeatedly necessitated a live look-up in my notes ;-) – but I think the result was very intelligible nevertheless.
There is a video recording of the talk (Ogg theora, 130MB) available under a CC-BY-SA license, featuring the end of a long elegant (and somewhat intimidating ;-) introduction by Hr. Keup. If anyone has photos please let us know!
Some very, very special thanks go to the organizers of Ubucon for their welcome, support and hospitality – you made the week-end a very memorable event.

Congratulations and welcome back. :)
So, how was the trip? Isn’t it great to drive german highways without speed-limits? ;-)
By the way, your German is quite good, but the sound-quality of the video rather bad. Anyway, I’ve seen the English version from T-Dose. This one I just had a look into to see you talk in German. ;-)
Thank you!
Dennis, you were right not to watch it entirely, I’m mostly saying the same thing as in T-Dose, just a little slower ;-) The conference was almost a cold-start, it was several months since I had held a conversation in German. After a couple of days in Krefeld, I was already much more fluent again.
As for the motorways, well, for a bunch of reasons (mostly ecology) I cruise at a whopping 95 km/h, so Germany doesn’t feel much different. I know the thrill of speed though. =)
