In spite of the big advantages of having our projects powered by DocBook (multiple output formats and projects easier to translate, if compared with XHTML files), we have decided to keep our HTML and use GNU Gettext to make it easier for our translators to do their job through Pootle.
GetGNULinux.org is the first project that is being migrated to this new platform, and you may keep an eye on our progress through our Polyglot milestone. The source code for the attempt to port GetGNULinux.org to DocBook has been moved to the docbook-version-stillborn tag, in our subversion repository.
The “First Steps in GNU/Linux” project will be the only powered by DocBook, as some people might prefer a printed copy of that website (DocBook makes it easy to export a given documentation to multiple formats, unlike HTML).
We expect to get this system working by December 1st, at least only with GetGNULinux.org.

Great to hear about your plans for Pootle. After reading this post, I just wondered if you are aware that you can translate docbook in PO format. If I understand correctly, you can keep your current work method with docbook _and_ translate the sites in Pootle with PO files.
Check out xml2pot and xml2po from the kdesdk package.
Hi, F Wolff!
Thank you! I didn’t know about the kdesdk package; it will come in handy for the translation of our FSGL project.
Thanks once again!
Cheers!
